Lane-closure and merge warning from dashcam video

Seeing cones is easy. Understanding the lane closure they create is what matters. Our system turns cones into a decision: which lane is closed, which way to merge, and how far away the taper is.

How it works

  1. The detector is simply told to look for “traffic cones” — no labelled training data needed.
  2. Cones are tracked and placed on the ground in real meters.
  3. A line is fitted through the cones to find the taper and the closed lane.
  4. The overlay shows the merge line, the closed lane, the merge direction and the distance to the taper.

Who it's for

Autonomous vehicle and ADAS teams, road safety programs, work-zone contractors and fleet safety.

Questions

Does it need color to find cones?

No. Our test video was black and white; the system worked from shape and geometry.

How does it know the distance?

Cones have a known size, so their size in the image gives the range. The system cross-checks this by recovering the camera's mounting height.

Can it run in a vehicle?

Yes, it can be optimized for in-vehicle hardware.
