Queue length and wait time from one camera

Turn one fixed camera into live queue numbers your operations team can act on: how many people are waiting, how fast the line moves, and how long the next person will wait.

Queue length and wait time from one camera — demo output

Demo result: with a top-down camera, about 300 people found per frame and 1,580+ people tracked. Under angled cameras, 67% of detections overlap — which is why camera placement matters.

How it works

  1. We mount or reuse a camera over the line — a top-down view gives the best counts.
  2. Every person is detected and tracked as the line moves.
  3. The system measures queue length, walking speed and how many people clear the checkpoint each minute.
  4. A live dashboard shows wait time, dwell time and a crowd density heat map.

Who it's for

Airports, security checkpoints, clinics, retail, stadiums and border crossings — anywhere a line costs money.

Questions

Why does the camera angle matter?

From an angled camera, people block each other and the count reads low exactly when the line is longest. A top-down view largely removes that problem.

Do we need sensors or turnstiles?

No. One camera is enough.

Can it alert staff?

Yes. Alerts can fire when the wait time or queue length passes a limit you set.
